the Mineral Springs Hotel
the unique history of the Mineral
Springs hotel has led to claims of
hauntings unlike any other hotel in
existence it seems like it was fated to
be haunted long before the Hotel was
ever thought of that energy still lies
stored within the stone that makes up
its foundation the stone was first used
in 1833 to build the first Illinois
State Penitentiary which housed
prisoners until the opening of Juliet
penitentiary in 1860. but it would
reopen
in 1862 as a military prison to house
Confederate prisoners until the end of
the American Civil War when the prison
closed in 1865 it was demolished over
the period of decades and its Stone was
repurposed to build many structures that
still stand in Alton Illinois one of
these projects
was the Mineral Springs Hotel
and it’s in the deepest of three
basements amongst this Stone where Dave
and I convened to discuss this hotel’s
Origins

is the deepest part
of the Mineral Springs Hotel yes it is
and where we’re standing
is the reason that it all began this is
where it all started the reason why this
hotel was here
the reason that all of those people
traveled here the reason for the
happiness the hopefulness the tragedy
the sadness
the reason for all of it is right here
in front of us
because back in 1909 two brothers August
and Hermann lure came here to open a
meat packing plant
on this property and in the process of
trying to build that they struck a very
interesting natural water spring yes
they did they said it smelled like
sulfur
they said
that as soon as they struck this spring
they contacted a chemist who told them
that it would have natural healing
properties so instead of a meat packing
plant they opened a health spa why not
why not
now really this water didn’t have very
many healing properties to it but they
advertised and said that it would cure
almost any ailment
flocked to this hotel
for the Curative powers of this water
and what happened after that
is all a result
of Herman and August lures
healing mineral water
this is where a majority of the original
hotel rooms were
this half
oh goodness it’s so warm oh God this
half of the upstairs totally stripped is
bare two by fours they’re eight by fours
eight by twos all the lengths of wood
that you could have it’s all exposed to
here come on
I want to shut this come on we are going
to go this way here anyway all of these
empty rooms you guys see on either side
were old hotel rooms so follow me into
this room here and this is the most
prominent hotel room in the whole
building the most well-known one
this is Pearl Lorraine’s hotel room uh
Pearl was a 50 to 60 year old woman she
stayed in this hotel
um after I don’t want to say after it
was condemned because it was not
condemned yet but it was sort of a
seedier room by the hour type scenario
as opposed to the you know big bougie
luxurious Health Spa that it was before
so Pearl
came here on
an evening and she committed suicide
the most prominent memory I have from
this room is two years ago on a
Halloween investigation we were up here
and we were using our Spirit Box it was
the most distinct sound I’ve ever heard
in this whole building through the
Spirit Box we heard the sound of a
bottle of pills hitting the floor and
the pills just falling and smelling
everywhere yeah she overdosed that’s and
that’s what it says on the death
certificate too that we have in the Soul
Asylum the Curiosity Museum downstairs
so
lately Pearl’s husband has been coming
through a lot he’s an aggressive guy
as of the past couple weeks he’s been
popping up on the readings with the gear
that we’ve been using and making himself
known you’ll kind of you can always tell
when it’s him Pearl has a really soft
feminine energy and he has a really
aggressive hard
masculine energy a lot of times when
he’s in the space sit with you you will
hear
slurs you’ll hear
derogatory terms towards women pop up on
whatever gear you’re using so
okay God that feels so cool
you guys sweating yet I sweat how are
your balls
um okay this room is one of my least
favorite rooms in this whole building
I’m gonna sit down for this one because
it takes a lot out of me
um this room after this building was
condemned and shut down and it was
pretty much just being accessed by
people who were breaking in to do
rituals seances
much more darker and malevolent things
to other human beings because it’s an
abandoned space and you won’t get caught
if you do something terrible this room
was being used by a group of we’re gonna
say pagans but I don’t think they were
pagans I think they were just men who
were preying on vulnerable women in the
area who wanted to be part of a
community
those men would bring these women up
here they would do some really awful
disturbing things to them
and it was put off as this sex blood
magic type ritual for this initiation
into this so-called coven

if you stand in the middle of the room
for a good 30 minutes
you will feel like you were on fire you
will feel like the bottom half of your
body is being burnt alive
it’s a terrible terrible experience so

did these guys get caught like you know
the funny story no they did it no no
they didn’t
it’s clear that whether the hotel was
still in operation or it was abandoned
it was no stranger to Darkness and
tragedy and the next place that Laura
and Sam will take us is no different
down in the first of three basements the
hotel’s pool sits empty and is now
believed to be the home of both a
malicious entity and a young man who has
the saddest of stories
the famous pool

that could have been bad that could have
been bad
this is the main pool of the Mineral
Springs Hotel the most well-known story
with this pool is the death of a young
man named Clarence he was probably about
my age 22 23 and he
a little dive
hit his Noggin did not come back up a
lot of the times people when we come
down here we’ll Turn All the Lights Off
will just sit in complete silence
sometimes people will bring a chair over
there and sit in his corner and you know
they’ll say I felt like I couldn’t
breathe I started to get dizzy started
to sweat
there is another energy that is in this
room
he is not my favorite we call him
William
um so after this building was condemned
and I mentioned when we were upstairs
there’s a lot of folks that were coming
in to do different rituals seances stuff
like that for those seances and
summoning rituals a majority of the time
they were not closed properly so you’ll
have a lot of energies here in this
building that were brought here against
their will they have no idea why they’re
here they’re just stuck he’s a big boy
he’s about seven or so feet tall you can
see him do you want to go to his room

oh god oh it’s very dark hold on it’s
really dark I got it
turn it’s so scary
um they they basically bound him to this
room that we’re about to go into with a
series of sigils and um is he dangerous
is that why no he’s not dangerous he
just
like with like with pearl if you are a
woman or a child you get a little bit
more affected by this energy not in the
same way as Pearl though this with pearl
it’s a connection with William it’s
not fear but it’s not good I don’t like
it the times that I have gone in here
um yeah it’s it’s a bigger space it’s
not
I just don’t like it it is freaky yeah I
don’t like it in here oh it feels heavy
as hell
because our time in the Mineral Springs
hotel is limited tonight there’ll be one
other place that will focus on
investigating tonight that place is the
sub basement the home of Hermann and
August mineral whale which sits in a
terrifying room with an intimidating
name
this is what they call the
slaughterhouse my God
it sounds so the the brothers who built
this hotel August and Hermann lure they
were butchers from Germany they moved to
St Louis with their wives their wives
hated St Louis it was dirty and it
smelled like piss and they brought their
wives over here to Alton because it was
this up and coming booming Little River
Town basically they started drilling for
water that wasn’t sourced from the
Mississippi River because the
Mississippi River has always been rancid
so they started to drill for water that
was from a different source
and right here
is where they hit a Sulfur Spring
the whole reason this place exists is
because they hit this sulfuric spring
they tasted the water they’re like oh
this tastes like minerals and they were
like let’s make it a thing let’s let’s
Market this Health Spas healing you know
the FDA board wasn’t established they
could say that this if you sit in their
pool your syphilis will go away there
was no nobody’s saying they couldn’t do
that so that was very prominent and
that’s what these guys did
I was basically standing I was looking
into the well here of the spring and the
three people that I was down here with
they’d walk back out into that main
hallway that we were in
and I could hear them talking it was
totally normal I was I was definitely
going out of my comfort zone because
normally if I’m back here I cannot have
my back exposed at all because there’s
something constantly behind me and I
turned around
and in that doorway that we walked in
there was this probably like six foot
five almost seven foot tall
figure person standing there very like
you know nothing discernible about them
just that it was a human
and it was standing there but it was
like giving off this really nice soft
light like almost glowing and I walked
towards it and it was gone
so that means just one thing Dave
just one thing
the Mineral Springs hotel is said to be

sub basement right now of course where
we were talking earlier and we have the
spirit pod a proximity meter we have the
brand new Piccolo EMF music box as well
as a motion activated light down here if

can but this is also where Laura saw an
apparition right in that doorway behind
us up on the main basement the pool
floor there’s three basements in this
building which is a little bit nuts on
the first basement in the main pool room
we have an action cam covering that
entire pool floor we have a rem pod down
inside the pool so if Clarence wants to
come and mess with that he can we also
have motion sensors set up in the pool
and back by William’s room so if
anything moves back there the motion
sensors will go off letting us know that
there’s strange and unexplainable
movement upstairs where the old hotel
rooms used to be on the second floor we
have two rooms covered the two main
rooms that Laura told us about which is
the room where Pearl passed away
supposedly took her own life
we have the Paranormal music box set up
in there and then the room in the back
corner where they believe there were
some very evil and sadistic and
predatorial behaviors that took place
that may have opened some doorways we
have a camera in there and we have the
mill meter with the REM function turned
on set up in there so we’ll see what

the Mineral Springs hotel and be able to
spend a little bit more time in some of
these locations and some of these parts
of the hotel the problem is these places
are so massive that it’s impossible to
investigate the entire place in one go
of it so it is yeah we could easily
spend two three nights here hopefully if
we ever get to come back we may get to
experience that so and this place is
beautiful it’s an amazing building it
has a lot of history and we are very
excited to have the opportunity to
finally make it here to investigate that
session in the pool
is probably one that we’ll remember for
a long time oh yeah that was very cool
and there’s a lot to unpack there and
there’s a lot even to review who knows
who knows what happened on abandonment
it’s hard to tell it’s hard to tell so

tours lots of things that you can
partake in Oddity shops and things that
